I’m Monica, and I serve as the Director of Little Lights Preschool. I am married to Pastor Seth Haakenson, who serves as the pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church. We are parents to four beautiful girls, Anna, Natalia, Mica, and Eva. We also have a golden retriever named Josie.

Background/Experience: I have a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education and enjoy teaching all ages, but my absolute favorite age group is preschool. I have worked as a teacher at private Lutheran schools and as a daycare provider at various centers and in my home. My love for preschoolers has driven me to complete coursework to open and direct Little Lights Preschool. I look forward to sharing my faith and partnering with you in the growth and development of your child.

Hobbies: I love to go hiking in the woods with my family and golden retriever. I enjoy getting messy with DIY projects, and the occasional art projects with my kids. I also like escaping to the beach in the summertime.

Favorite Bible Passage: Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

I’m Sami and I serve as Assistant Director and the Fireflies Lead Teacher here at Little Lights Preschool.

Background/Experience: I graduated from Martin Luther College in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and an academic minor in Music. I routinely played “teacher” as a little girl and knew from a young age that it was the career for me. I began working in childcare in 2020 and haven’t looked back since! I have experience caring for and teaching children from birth through age six in-home, at daycare centers, and within schools. I am blessed to have the opportunity to do what I love every day and share the good news of Christ’s forgiveness and love with His little lambs.

Hobbies: My passions outside of teaching include spending time with my family and friends, exploring new coffee shops, playing piano, and enjoying God’s creation while hiking or fishing on the lake.

Favorite Bible Passage: 2 Corinthians 12:9a, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'”

Pastor Seth Haakenson is the Pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church. As he is bilingual, he is able to serve the spiritual needs of Waukegan and the surrounding area.
